Powered by the Glitch explores the intersection of art, technology, and social activism through the lens of feminist cyborg theory and an interactive augmented reality (AR) installation. By inviting audiences to engage with their inner glitch, the project challenges traditional norms, disrupts binary logic, and embraces the fluidity of identity, celebrating the hybrid, the messy, and the in-between. It also interrogates the influence of virtual personas on real-life identities and questions the societal expectations placed on women to be perfect and always perform for the world’s gaze.
Underpinned by Legacy Russell's concept of the glitch as "a form of refusal, a strategy of non-performance," the project references queer and drag club culture, creating a space of posibility within systems that demand conformity and standardization. Audiences will hear interpretive readings from Glitch Feminism and activate glitched phrases upon interactive.
Performance
The project was created for Flux Factory’s fall show called Spiritual Machines, and features a drag cyborg AR performance as a durational exploration of inhabiting a persona in AR, offering a dynamic exploration of these themes.
